Communities across California are demanding systemic change. While our state student population is becoming increasingly more diverse each year, diversity in the teacher and educational leader rank and file continue to stagger behind. Many districts across the state have already begun the intentional work of redesigning the system for the purpose of diversifying their teacher and administrator workforce. This panel will explore two important recommendations of the CDE Educator Diversity Advisory Group that call for the transformative change needed to better support educators and teachers of color across our state. Topics to lead the panel discussion will include:
- Outlining the CDE Educator Diversity Advisory Group Recommendations
- Explaining the work of the Los Angeles Male Teacher of Color Network (LAMTCN) in LAUSD and the Monterey COE with 21CSLA
- Unapologetically focusing attention on the need to diversify the educator workforce and keep effective educators of color in our schools
- Key research behind what leads to effective and sustainable transformative change to redesign the system to better support educators and students of color. (challenges the status quo)
