Erika Maldonado
Santa Barbara Unified School District
Coordinator of Early Childhood & After School Programs
Santa Barbara, Ca.
I was born in Guerrero Mexico and was raised in the city of Pacoima/Sylmar county of Los Angeles where I started my educational career at Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). I earned my A.A. degree in Child Development at Los Angeles Mission College and started my career in Early Childhood Education as a teacher’s assistant. I successfully ran an after school program as the coordinator while doing my practicum hours for Early Childhood Education. My determination to grow led me to hold titles such as Lead teacher, Assistant Director and Support Manager. I returned to school to advance in my career and obtained my B.A. in Human Development, specializing in Life Across the Life Span and my M.A. in Human Development, specializing in Leadership in Education and Human Services both from Pacific Oaks College. I moved from L.A. to Santa Barbara where I started working at Santa Barbara City College as an Academic Advisor Assistant. I worked at the Goleta Union School District (GUSD) directly with the state preschool, Instructional Services, English learners, and all nine local elementary schools for three years prior to joining the team at Isla Vista Youth Projects, Inc. (IVYP) as the Children’s Center Program Director. This past Summer I joined the Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) as one of the Early Education & After School Programs Coordinator. Overall I have 24 years of professional experience in education, leadership, administration, coordination and supervision. My personal, educational and professional experience working in different educational and social service career-oriented roles has given me the experience to promote inclusivity, diversity, and engaging customer service. Being a lifelong learner, I am truly passionate about education and highly encourage those around me to continue their education through motivation, guidance and support.
